“Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you ought to set up a life you don’t need to escape from.”
A few months ago I read Tribes by Seth Godin. This thought-provoking book left me feeling empowered and ready to lead, but more than anything, I could not get that quote out of my head. Can you imagine living a life that you did not want to escape from? A life in which you were so content, that you weren’t living for your next vacation or long weekend? It’s almost unfathomable.
What would this professional utopia look like? What would I want? Well, I know I want to be challenged. I want to gain wisdom. I want to learn. I want to grow. I want to have a purpose. I want to be the best possible version of myself.
What did I enjoy most about my career? My goal has always been a make a difference in the lives of others. I get an immense amount of joy out of helping others, which is why I made nonprofit studies the focus of my college education at James Madison University. Since graduation, I have spent my career working for national-brand nonprofit organizations in the health-cause arena. During this time, I focused on peer-to-peer fundraising, special events of all shapes and sizes, corporate revenue cultivation, volunteer recruitment and management and young professional leadership.
The decade spent in this arena was an absolutely amazing one filled with passion, but it was also demanding, relentless and exhausting. With that said, I wouldn’t change a thing, because it turned me into the hardworking, tenacious, driven, passionate, successful person that I am today.
While pondering my professional utopia, I found myself wondering how to close this chapter of my life while still helping others and making a real difference.

So, is this my professional utopia? Is this my new life that I won’t need escaping from? I suppose only time will tell, but I have a really good feeling about this new journey, and I know I am ready to be a part of #TheCrouchWay.
